On Assignment

Updated: Mar 27, 2021

Definition:

Assign- job or duty; designate or set (something) aside for a specific purpose.

Ment- result, action, process

In this time we are in it’s not odd to hear a person say, “I have an assignment to fulfill.” “What is my assignment?” “I have an assignment due.” Whether a person is in school, speaking through ministry, or just knowing through a gut feeling there is more. I broke down the word assignment into two words to get a clear definition of the overall meaning of the word. Two words stood out to me that gives it so much clarity. Designate and Process.

Our assignments are a designated process. We are chosen, assigned, and appointed to achieve a particular end. Ephesians 2:10, for we are God‘s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.(NIV) It is ongoing. That is what I’ve come to realize. Assignments are not going to end with 1, 2, or even 3 but while you breath God will constantly give you new assignments. You have been chosen for it. Stop running from it like Jonah. Jonah 1:1-3, The Lord spoke his word to Jonah son of Amittai. Get up, go to the great city of Nineveh, and preach against it, because I see the evil things they do. But Jonah got up to run away from the Lord by going to Tarshish. He went to the city of Joppa where he found a ship that was going to the city of Tarshish. Jonah paid for the trip and went aboard, planning to go to Tarshish to run away from the Lord. (NCV). Just like Jonah, we must go through the “Designated Process” of fulfilling a call that God has given us.

Now often we try to make everything an assignment and that is not something that God may have appointed for us to do. You must seek God first in all situations regarding a new task. Matthew 6:33, But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.(NIV). My Pastor once said, “not every good thing is a God thing.” We must seek wise counsel, pray, and fast before taking on something that you may consider a ”designated process.” It could well enough be a distraction from what God is actually calling you to do. In Proverbs 3:7 it says, Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. (NIV). Another version says, Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.(NLT).

We must also know when an assignment is over. Do not prolong it, when you are meant to separate. It’s okay to walk away. I repeat, IT IS OKAY!

”Forcefully prolonging a designated process, will turn into a designated headache.”~Hassanah White

God told us in the book of James, in our weakness he is strong. Give it to God. Your body is not meant to hurt but, when it does it’s often due to stress, headaches, muscle spasms. This means that an internal attack that is often built from an external prolonging that is causing damage.

Knowing when to begin the process is just as important as knowing when to end one. Don’t delay what is designated for you.

So, what assignments, “Designated Process” has Daddy God called you to? Have you been running? Have you held on too long? Have you even attempted to start? Surrender your fears and allow God to move you through what He has assigned you to. Remember this as well, my assignment is not yours and yours is not mine. That is why we are called Son & Daughter because every child is different. Just like our designated process.

Sis, Treasure your assignment! I applaud all of you who have taken it on and allowed God to lead you through. May God be the voice you listen to as you move along.
