Because HE said so!

Let’s all agree that we have heard one of our parents tell us to do something and we courageously ask “why?” Their response would probably be “because I said so!” Sometimes that just wasn’t enough, but if you wanted to avoid the punishment of disobedience you would do what was asked. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 teaches us, “all scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

I’ve been struggling with something for a while, really too long. It’s all because I haven’t been obedient to what my Heavenly Father has told me to do. I questioned it and in His word I kept hearing him say because I said so! But God...Because I said so! But God...Because I said so! But God...Because I said so! Time after time my question may change, but His answer is still the same. Let’s look at some scriptures that loudly proclaim some of God’s, “because HE said so.”

Matthew 7:1-2, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure of use, it will be measured to you.”

Luke 6:27-28, “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.“

Philippians 2:14, “Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”

1 Thessalonians 5:17, ”Pray continually.”

Malachi 3:10, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says he Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

Proverbs 3:5-6, ”Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 19:18, “Discipline your children, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death.”

We can go on and on. God‘s word is solid and it should be reverenced. I’ve come to learn obedience is better than sacrifice. For instance, in the Bible if Noah would not have been obedient he would’ve drowned just like everyone else. (Genesis chapters 6-9). My willingness to give God my YES is more important than me working in the church doing this or that, or me appearing to be all holy and anointed when no oil is on my life. That does not please God or stroke his ego. God is not like man. He has no ego. He is sovereign, an all knowing God that gave us grace as a gift through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We couldn’t earn it or give any amount of money to have it. This is why we must obey him. Because He said so! Obedience is not Monday through Friday and the weekend is mine. It’s daily. A lifestyle. It’s what should be in style. Obedience is how we live our lives every single day.

I read a quote once by Priscilla Shirer that said, “On the other side of obedience, there’s freedom and victory!” AMEN!! Let’s encourage each other to keep pressing toward our Heavenly Fathers word and obeying it fully. Let's run to the word for answers to our questions, problems, or concerns. Then sit still so you can hear God's response. He whispers, so quiet yourself to hear him. It's a beautiful thing when you grasp God's word in a new way.

Let’s E.A.T!
